Local Produce

Sourcing food locally has many benefits not only to the environment, but to our bodies, and to the flavour and condition of the produce you buy. Reducing haulage time means that less carbon dioxide (CO2) is put into the atmosphere, less packaging is required, and ensures that produce arrive fresher which is likely to improve the nutrient levels of all fresh produce. Nowadays there are fewer jobs in the farming industry and by buying locally you are helping to contribute to the local economy and by doing so ensuring traceability of the produce that you buy.

At Country Fare we strive to source as many of our products from local sources as possible, whilst ensuring a constant supply of all the fresh fruit, vegetables, salad and herbs you would expect and require every day. In some cases, such as out of season or exotic items sourcing locally is not an option as these items can only be sourced from certain parts of the world at particular times of year. However these items can and are sourced by us with a view to reducing food miles, such as in the case of citrus fruit. Citrus fruits can only be imported from Southern America and South Africa during the winter months, but by switching our supply during the months of May through till October when Southern Europe’s citrus season is in full swing we are able to significantly reduce the food miles of these items for a good proportion of the year, reducing haulage time and thus haulage costs which we are then able to pass on to you.

Our chief buyer has unrivalled experience in the wholesale fruit and vegetable industry.
